The past three weeks here have been everything I could hope for and more. I have been slowly starting to understand the culture and adjust to the lifestyle. The people here and shy, but extremely kind. In America shy is just not being as bubbly as you usually are; here being shy is not talking and not really showing emotions. This is making me have to initiate all of my conversations, I have to put myself out there to interact with those around me. At first this was hard to get used to, but now I know that it's just something I have to do. After we start talking, I learn how sweet and kind everyone is here. I think having to put this work in makes the friendship all the better.
Many things have happened so far; school started, I ran a women's 5k around the city, I went to one of the southern islands for a birthday party, I've tried dried whale meat, dried fish, and fermented sheep, and spent a night with other exchange students.
School is hard because the classes are in faroese or danish and the text books are in danish. I am in the politics line in school, the election for prime minister is happening in September, so it's a great line to have. I have english, biology, chemistry, physics, politics, art, gym, math, and faroese. Some of the classes I have had before, so I understand what is going in in class. We also stay with the same people for every class. I really like my classmates and have made some great friends so far.
My time here has been a whirlwind. I have done so many things, and experienced so much! Faroe Islands is definitely the right choice for me!
