Changing Seasons

It is the time of year again that the seasons start to drastically change, this year though I get to experience them in a whole new country. Thursday was the first snowfall of the year; I was sitting in my room with Maria, my host sister, watching a movie and chatting when we looked outside and saw huge snowflakes falling. The sight was like something out of a picture. I was so happy I started jumping for joy. The normal snow that falls here is light and almost like rain, but this snow fall was like the one in Minnesota. The next day at school everything was covered in snow. I couldn't stop looking out the window in class and smiling. Otherwise, it has been cold and icy, usually the temperature has been right around freezing point. It also rains all the time. The autumns here are rainy and windy. Dark comes sooner too. At around 17:00 it is almost completely dark. That has been one of the hardest things. The darkness makes me more tired then I already am. I am trying to not let the dark affect me that much though. I am excited to see what christmas will be like here in the Faroes. The town is already decorated for christmas, the streets have garland hanging, the buildings have lights, and the mall has a christmas setup. The sad part is I will not get to celebrate my favorite holiday this year, thanksgiving. I was thinking of maybe making a turkey and a couple of my favorite dishes to share with my family. Overall, things are still going great. I’m really loving my experience here and I can’t wait to see what’s to come.
